Registers and real-life studies

We collect data from routine care for important eye diseases in order to better understand the actual care received by patients.

Real-life studies are used to describe and analyze care under everyday conditions. Registers are prospective data collections that make it possible to analyze long-term care patterns and trends.

Patient-oriented studies and quality of life analyses

Analyzing the patient perspective is a key approach to understanding the care situation. Our studies aim to better understand patient behavior, preferences and motivations. To this end, we also conduct studies on quality of life, which can be measured both generally (generically) and specifically for vision.

Surveys and qualitative social research

Surveys within the ophthalmological profession or among patients can provide valuable insight into care practices, but can also reveal reasons for or against decisions to undergo certain treatments. Conducting surveys and qualitative interviews is therefore an integral part of our work.

Supply monitoring and quality assurance

The analysis of the care situation should not only be carried out at specific points, but also over the longer term in order to describe care patterns and identify possible deficiencies. Our studies therefore serve the goal of ophthalmological quality assurance.

Pharmacovigilance analyses

As part of our studies, it is possible to carry out targeted analyses of the side effects of medicines and to ensure systematic reporting of adverse events.

Phase 4 trials

After being launched onto the market, new drugs undergo a standardized process to test their effectiveness and safety. We support these studies in cooperation with companies in the pharmaceutical industry and the relevant regulatory authorities. Our technical infrastructure enables easy collection of large amounts of patient data from multicenter studies.

Epidemiological studies

Knowledge about the prevalence of eye diseases and their risk factors is essential to determine the need for ophthalmic care. We therefore prepare epidemiological information from population studies and work with universities that conduct these studies.

Public health, health reports

Vision is not only a valuable asset for the individual, but also has great social and health policy relevance. Reporting on the prevalence of eye diseases and ophthalmic care is necessary in order to adapt care structures to needs. Due to demographic aging on the one hand and new treatment options on the other, the demand and supply of care are changing. IVO strives to provide an empirical data basis for the various participants in health care.

Health economics

Healthcare decisions are based on a consideration of the resources to be used to achieve the desired healthcare outcomes. IVO can support this process by participating in health economic studies.

Counseling services

Ophthalmic care should not only be researched, but also managed. IVO therefore supports decision-makers in ophthalmology and the pharmaceutical industry, but also health insurance companies, statutory health insurance providers and patient associations in developing and implementing improved care options.
